Sam is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience working with adolescents, young adults, couples and families. Sam earned his Masters Degree in Psychology from Phillips Graduate University with a concentration in Postmodern Therapy and holds a Bachelors degree from University of California Santa Cruz.
In private practice, Sam is passionate about working with the LGBTQ+ community, utilizing strength-based and humanistic approaches to counseling. In addition, Sam is currently training to further specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to incorporate evidenced-based approaches to anger management, PTSD, and trauma. Sam has experience working with a wide range of clinical issues dealing with family conflict, depression, anxiety, trauma, bullying, self-esteem, coming out, and crisis management. In his spare time, Sam enjoys hiking, being outdoors, and playing tabletop games.
Sam currently leads the Teen Support and LGBTQ+ Support groups at Engage. In June 2019, Sam presented research entitled: “Positive Emotions and How They Help” – outlining methods on how to increase and stabilize self-esteem during adolescents and decrease depression throughout adulthood.
