Frequently Asked Questions for Parents

Why are the Engage programs 4 days a week?

We know that more support provided in the early stages of a patient’s treatment leads to better outcomes. The first few weeks are when we are able to provide the most containment, safety, and encouragement. Our programs begin at four days a week and drop down to three days a week, based on individual treatment progress. Everyone is different, and at Engage we respect that everyone must heal in their own time. To learn more about how our programs work and the time commitment expected, please visit our programs page.

Are the other patients in the groups struggling with similar issues?

While everyone has their own struggles, Engage treats the primary diagnoses of anxiety and depression. Our detailed screening process includes drug testing and an intake assessment to ensure that we are able to provide the greatest level of care or find another provider who can.

How much involvement is required of parents?

Family support is one of the backbones of Engage Treatment. Our treatment plans revolve around the ability to create a complete support team for your child. This means that we are here for you to lean on too. We strongly encourage parents with any questions or concerns to call and talk to our Director of Admissions, Danielle Chebabi.

Your involvement is essential in this process. For more information, read more about our Reflective Parenting Program.

Why doesn’t Engage offer individual therapy?

There are two main reasons we choose not to focus on individual therapy:

Many of our patients arrive at Engage with a pre-established relationship with a therapist. That relationship is valuable, and we know that we can build a treatment plan without interrupting any of the progress made with that therapist.

And, we believe in the power of the group. Engage is a place where kids can build their own tribe. They develop connections with their peers in group therapy. Sometimes one-on-one sessions can make that group experience less impactful, or make a patient less likely to share with the group.

What if my child doesn’t want to come?

Call us! No, really. We’re here to be your support system. This is the time to lean on the Engage team. While your child is in treatment, it is most beneficial if parents can remain supportive without being judgemental. Your Engage Treatment team will talk through the situation, talk with your child and help you find the path forward.

How do patients manage school, homework, sports, and the program all at once?

While in the program, treatment becomes the priority. Our afterschool IOPs are designed to allow patients the ability to stay in school while they are in treatment. We can communicate directly with schools, teachers, and coaches to make sure everyone is on the same page regarding your child’s treatment plan. Engage’s goal is to get your child back to their normal life – homework, friends, soccer, dance class, etc. A few weeks of focused treatment will allow your child to engage more fully with the other parts of their life.

What about LGBTQ patients?

LGBTQ+ people are more than twice as likely as their heterosexual peers to struggle with a mental health disorder. Add to that the fact that 2 out 5 LGBTQ+ youths have considered suicide in the past year, and it is clear that there is no overstating the need to support these young people. At Engage Treatment, we are proud and loud supporters of the LGBTQ+ community in Conejo Valley.

Do You Provide Good Faith Estimates?

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to provide individuals who are not enrolled in an insurance plan or a Federal health care program, and not seeking to file a claim with their insurance via superbill or via an in network provider, with a “Good Faith Estimate” if expected charges at the time of scheduling health care items and services.

A “Good Faith Estimate” explains how much your medical and mental health care will cost over the period of time you are in treatment. Under this law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are choosing not to use their insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. Please note that if you are submitting claims to insurance for an out of network provider, you will not receive a Good Faith Estimate, as you are using insurance to pay for all of or a portion of treatment.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises

What does Joint Commissions accreditation mean and why does it matter?

The Joint Commission is an independent, non-profit organization that accredits and certifies health care organizations across the United States. They are the oldest and largest standard-setting agency across the healthcare industry and trust us, those standards are high.

That’s why we are so proud to be a Joint Commission Accredited Professional Psychological Practice. That means we meet or exceed the highest national standards for safety and quality of care. Our accreditation means that clients know we are committed to continually improving patient care.

Standards set by the Joint Commission are developed by healthcare experts, providers, and patients and are backed by scientific studies and experts in the health care industry. You can click here to learn more about the rigorous accreditation process.

Frequently Asked Questions for Referring Clinicians

How does Engage work with referring clinicians?

Engage Treatment becomes your extended treatment team. Patients are able to continue to see their therapy providers while in the Engage Treatment Program. We work with you, providing regular updates on your patient, status meetings, and creating a team to discuss ongoing issues and support options. We work with referring clinicians to create the most powerful and effective treatment plans possible for clients.

What types of therapy does Engage offer?

At Engage Treatment, we use a combination of process and skill-based therapy techniques. We integrate CBT, DBT, and mindfulness into our treatment plans. Our work is built on the Oaklander Model of Gestalt Therapy, with a focus on family systems and attachment theory.
For more information on how we work with patients, read our therapy philosophy.

What insurance networks are you in-network with?

The Engage Treatment Program is in-network for all IOP services with Anthem Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente, Carelon (formerly Beacon of California), ComPsych, and Healthnet. For all others with PPO or out-of-network benefits, our insurance and billing team will work diligently to access any benefits and directly bill the insurance provider.

How can I get updates on the treatment status of my referred patients?

Adelina Brisbois, our Clinical Director, provides weekly updates on patient status, including any important changes in treatment. You’ll be able to communicate directly with your patient’s treatment team. Work with us, get the support you need, and continue to see your clients as scheduled. Contact Adelina here with any questions.

What are the next steps?

You can contact our Intake Coordinator, Jennifer Cuccia. She is ready with answers and excited to introduce you to everything Engage Treatment offers. Jennifer will coordinate with you on any questions and guide you through your patient’s admissions process.

Community Resources

Here are a few of the community resources we frequently share with our youth clients and their family members.

Some are specific to the Conejo Valley area and others offer their services nationwide. We are not directly partnered with any of these resources, we find them to be helpful and want more people to be aware of what they offer.
